Sorong, SW Papua (ANTARA) - The Southwest Papua provincial government invited 20 micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) to showcase their products at a job fair in Sorong as part of an effort to empower them.

Head of the province's Manpower, Transmigration, Energy, and Mineral Resources Office, Suroso, said here on Tuesday that the provincial government collaborated with the Sorong district administration to showcase the 20 MSMEs at the job fair.

The MSMEs sell food and beverage products as well as handcrafts.

"This is to empower the MSME economy in Sorong district, so that in every event, MSMEs can be there," Suroso said.

In addition to holding a job fair to gather companies and job seekers in West Papua, the government also felt the need to present MSMEs at the event.

Suroso said he hoped that the MSMEs would be able to sell as many of their products as possible and thereby, help boost the local economy.

"This is an empowerment for MSME actors so that they can thrive and develop," he added.

Therefore, he invited all visitors at the job fair, which took place at the Aimas Convention Center, Sorong, to visit and shop for as many products as possible.

"Because the success of MSMEs depends on everyone's participation in the job fair," he said.

Meanwhile, the head of Sorong district's Industry, Trade, Co-operative Office, Marthen Pajala, said that the number of MSMEs recorded in Sorong this year is 6,375.

At least 1,525 of them are indigenous Papuan and the rest are non-native Papuan MSMEs.

"There are many MSMEs in Sorong so we make various efforts to empower them in every momentum, one of which is through the job fair exhibition held by the Southwest Papua provincial government," Pajala added.
