Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Communication and Information (Kominfo) Ministry is planning to evaluate the implementation of Kominfo Minister's Instruction No. 1 of 2023 concerning the handling of online gambling on Friday (September 22), Minister Budi Arie Setiadi informed.

"Today marks the seventh day of the implementation of the instruction. Hence, we will carry out the evaluation tomorrow," he said in Jakarta on Thursday.

The ministry has taken several measures that have helped the government to make significant achievements in its fight against online gambling, he added.

However, he did not divulge further details on the achievements made by the ministry in its efforts to eradicate content related to the illegal practice.

"We will reveal (the achievements) after the (evaluation) meeting. The point is that we did make significant progress. We are serious about this since online gambling could have direct adverse impacts on society," he affirmed.

The minister issued the instruction as a follow-up to related laws that regulate measures to prevent and eradicate digital content related to gambling as well as sanctions for those found participating in or promoting gambling.

The ministerial instruction, which was issued on September 14, 2023, encapsulated a number of instructions addressed to officials of the Kominfo Ministry, including those specifically addressed to the ministry's director general of information applications, Semuel A. Pangerapan.

In the instruction, Minister Setiadi urged Pangerapan to take preventive and proactive measures to take down online gambling-related content from all digital platforms, including social media, within seven days of the issuance of the instruction.

He also instructed the director general to carry out routine evaluation and supervision of all digital platforms, with the objective of preventing promotional content on online gambling from resurfacing.
