The agreement can be in the form of facilitating the flow of tourism services between countries, ease of issuing visas, recommendations for hotels and restaurants, and comparative studies among AIS countries to study coastal tourism.
"This cooperation can be in the form of (tourism) packages that can bring foreign exchange, not only to Indonesia but also to these AIS countries," Ahmad remarked here on Friday.
He noted that the AIS Summit, which will be held on October 10-11 in Nusa Dua, Bali, can be a promotional event for coastal tourism in Indonesia.
Some representatives from 51 island and archipelagic countries will attend the AIS Bali Summit, with a target of 25 heads of state and government and 30-47 ministerial-level officials.
Ahmad explained that Indonesia, as the host, can invite AIS Summit delegates to various Indonesian coastal destinations.
It is expected that when the delegates return to their home countries, they can share their experiences on social media about their time while traveling on Indonesian coasts.
To support this, Ahmad said that proper waste handling in Indonesia's coastal areas, such as Jakarta, needs to be carried out in order to realize a sustainable coastal tourism industry.
He explained that most coastal cities on Java Island, including Jakarta, are located on estuaries where waste dump meets. This condition has threatened the surrounding coastal environment, including plants and animals living in it.
Ahmad cautioned that if Jakarta's coastal condition is not improved, then people will tend to choose coastal tourism in Eastern Indonesia, as it is cleaner.
He also pushed for the improvement of tourism human resources, especially in coastal tourism.
