It was the first gold medal for the Indonesian wushu team at this year's Asian Games as well as the third gold medal for Indonesia during the games in Hangzhou.
In the nanquan round, Horatius impressed the judges, and they gave him a perfect score in terms of overall performance and degree of difficulty, giving him a total score of 9.756. Media persons were also stunned by the performance of the Indonesian representative.
Horatius' score was 0.020 points ahead of Yongmun Lee of South Korea, who was the bronze medalist at the 2018 Asian Games in Jakarta in the same sports event.
In the nangun round, Horatius finished at the top place with a score of 9.750, defeating Junhua Huang of Macau by a margin of 0.010.
Meanwhile, Horatius' toughest rival, Lee of South Korea, only received a score of 7.366, coming third in the nangun round, but earning an overall second-place finish and took the silver medal.
Junhua Huang of Macau won bronze.
It was the first medal as well as the first gold for Horatius at the Asian Games level. In the previous games, he had finished ninth at the 2018 Asian Games in Jakarta.
Before his achievement in the Asian Games, Horatius had won gold in the men's duilian event at the 2019 World Championships in Shanghai, China. He also clinched gold in the duilian event at the 2019 Southeast Asian Games, SEA Games, in the Philippines.
Earlier, on Sunday (September 24), another Indonesian wushu athlete, Edgar Xavier Marvelo, took a silver medal after scoring a total of 9.786 in the men’s changquan event.
The first two gold medals for Indonesia at the 2022 Asian Games came from shooting.
