Jakarta (ANTARA) - Minister of Youth and Sports Dito Ariotedjo extended his appreciation to Indonesian wushu athlete Harris Horatius for clinching the third gold medal for the Indonesian contingent at the 2022 Asian Games Hangzhou.

Horatius managed to clinch Indonesia's third gold medal at the 19th Asian Games after emerging as the best performer in the men's nanquan and nangun all-around contest at the Xiaoshan Guali Sports Centre on Tuesday (September 26).

As per a statement received here on the same day, Minister Ariotedjo extended gratitude for the success of Horatius and the Indonesian Wushu Association (PBWI) in presenting Indonesia with a gold medal, sparking hopes of the country finishing in the top 10 in the games' final standings.

"We are still on track to achieve the target of top-10 finish set by President Joko Widodo," he stated.

The minister also lauded the Indonesian contingent's Chef de Mission (CdM) Basuki Hadimuljono for his plan on presenting rewards to gold-winning athletes at the Asian Games.

"Mr. Hadimuljono has stated that he would give rewards of appreciation for achievements made," he noted.

Hadimuljono told Horatius to not be lulled by his feat and encouraged him to further hone his skills to continue to deliver achievements in upcoming competitions.

"I would like to thank you, Horatius, for devoting your best for the Indonesian nation by clinching a gold medal at the 2022 Asian Games Hangzhou. You are still very young. Hence, continue your training to face the next tournaments," he told the athlete.

In the fateful match, Horatius received an overall score of 19,506, with 9,756 points gained from the men's nanquan round and 9,750 from the men's nangun round. His overall score prevailed over the score of 19,463 gained by Macau athlete Junhua Huang.

"I would also like to extend my gratitude to Mr. CdM, Minister Ariotedjo, and PBWI for providing support for the preparations for the 2022 Asian Games Hangzhou," Horatius remarked.
