Jakarta (ANTARA) - Speaker of the House of Representatives (DPR), Puan Maharani, on Thursday urged the Indonesian Police-affiliated organization Police Sons and Daughters Family (KBPP Polri) to promote peaceful elections in 2024.

"In this national leadership forum, I invite the KBPP Polri to be actively involved in supporting the duties of the National Police, such as educating the public about the importance of carrying out a peaceful election," Maharani said here.

She delivered the remarks during the KBPP Polri national leadership forum entitled "Guarding the National Leadership to Welcome Golden Indonesia 2045."

The forum was attended by central and regional leaders of KBPP Polri, several House members, and representatives of the National Police.

According to Maharani, peaceful election implementation in 2024 will be one of the factors that will determine the nation's steps toward realizing the 2045 Golden Indonesia goal.

"The 2024 General Elections must run successfully and peacefully, and the National Police's performance in maintaining security and order is the key to the success of the election," she said.

She further said she expects KBPP Polri to contribute to the successful election implementation, as the police face more challenges with technological development.

As mandated by Law No. 2 of 2002 concerning the National Police, the police have a duty to realize public security and order, Maharani added.

"The National Police have a duty to maintain public security and order, enforce the law, and provide protection and services to the community," she said.

The House Speaker also asked KBPP Polri to help build understanding among the public about how common political differences are during elections.

"Tell the people not to be triggered by issues on social media that attempted to divide the nation," she said.
