Jakarta (ANTARA) - Constant breakthroughs are required to ensure that all local governments in Indonesia utilize digital transactions to support financial governance, according to Vice President Ma'ruf Amin.

"In the future, constant breakthroughs will be required to ensure that regional digitalization is adopted by all local governments," he said while delivering directions via virtual means at the 2023 National Coordination Meeting on the Acceleration and Expansion of Regional Digitalization in Jakarta on Tuesday.

The digitalization of the regional financial transaction ecosystem is part of the digital economic transition that aims to benefit the Indonesian people.

Based on the 2022 Local Government Transaction Electronification Index report, the number of local governments implementing digital-based financial transactions in the regions has increased by 84, the Vice President said.

The local governments that have switched to digital transactions account for around 52 percent of all regional governments in Indonesia, he added.

During the meeting, he also emphasized the importance of improving people's digital literacy, which requires special attention from all parties involved.

"Therefore, synergy and coordination between government agencies and with relevant stakeholders are important," he added.

He said he hopes that the use of digital technology can improve the quality of local government spending, including to support the empowerment of micro, small, and medium enterprises and domestic product development.
