Hangzhou (ANTARA) - Indonesian lifter Rahmat Erwin Abdullah secured a gold medal and set a world record in the men's 73kg weight category at the Asian Games in Hangzhou, China, on Tuesday.

The Olympics bronze medalist successfully executed all three lifts in each category and posted a combined 359kg, with 158kg in the snatch and 201kg in the clean and jerk, smashing the 2022 record of 200kg set by him.

Abdullah's was the first win for Indonesia in weightlifting at the Asian Games.

Other Indonesian lifters, including Olympics silver medalist Eko Yuli Irawan and Olympics bronze medalist Windy Cantika Aisah, failed to secure a medal at the Asian Games.

Wichuma Weeraphon of Thailand took silver in the men's 73kg division with a combined total of 351kg: 156kg in snatch and 195kg in the clean and jerk.

North Korean Kumthaek Oh secured a bronze with a total lift of 344kg, with 151kg in the snatch and 193kg in clean and jerk.

Before his appearance in Hangzhou, the 23-year-old lifter had managed to break a world record in the clean and jerk category in the men's 81kg division at the 2023 IWF World Championships in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, last September.
