The LoI was signed by Acting Head of Transportation Human Resource Development Agency Wisnu Handoko and Deputy Rector for Research, Innovation, and Cooperation, and Alumni Affairs of ITS Bambang Pramujati in Surabaya, East Java, on Saturday.
Transportation Minister Budi Karya Sumadi, who witnessed the signing, expressed hope that research carried out under the cooperation would have a direct impact on the community.
"Thoughts, research, and innovations must be based on one thing, namely the community," he said in a statement received on Sunday.
The scope of cooperation includes cooperation in the fields of education, research, community service, and human resource development and utilization.
Sumadi mentioned one example of the useful results of innovation and research by the nation's children is the Gesits electric motorcycle. The Indonesian-made battery-based vehicle has been marketed and mass-produced.
He said that through the cooperation, research in the field of transportation is expected to develop more.
He also asked higher education institutions to involve industries in carrying out research so that the products that they produce can be immediately mass-produced.
"There are many researches and innovations, but there must also be many that are downstream. Therefore, industries should be involved so that our transportation technology can be more competitive," he remarked.
