"We will keep monitoring it through the SDGs dashboard and conduct evaluations every six months," said Alimatul Rahim, assistant manager for Bappenas' SDG National Secretariat, on Wednesday.
The monitoring is aimed at assessing the success rate of SDG implementation. Both regional government and non-governmental institutions have committed to implementing the SDG indicators for five years, he added.
Bappenas has also advised West Papua to conduct an annual evaluation of the regional action plan to maximize SDG implementation, ultimately contributing to the people's welfare.
"If there are indicators that have not been met, we will provide feedback on the issue and potential solution," Rahim said.
Each province in Indonesia has specific SDG targets, which are determined based on fiscal and human resource capabilities, he noted.
Therefore, monitoring and evaluation are crucial for measuring and accelerating progress towards the targets outlined in the SDG regional action plans, he added.
"While the implementation of SDG indicators spans five years, there are targets that must be achieved every year," Rahim remarked.
He lauded the active participation of non-governmental institutions in the focus group discussion (FGD) on finalizing the RAP document. The FGD took place on October 9–11, 2023.
He said that this discussion showcased strong synergy between local government and communities in supporting the regional action plan to meet the SDG targets in West Papua.
"All representatives from governmental and non-governmental institutions were very enthusiastic," he said.
Meanwhile, the acting head of the province's Development Planning Agency (Bappeda) Diah D. Sesilia said that the RAP document finalized during the FGD will serve as a reference for the implementation of SDG indicators from 2023 to 2026.
The SDG indicators encompass goals such as poverty and hunger elimination, gender equality, access to clean water and sanitation, and economic growth, among other objectives.
