Jakarta (ANTARA) - Minister of Communication and Informatics (Kominfo) Budi Arie Setiadi discussed the potential for the development of the digital economy in ASEAN during a meeting with the Singaporean Ambassador to Indonesia, Kwok Fook Seng, here on Friday.

"The digital economy is a necessity; a lot of cooperation must be created because it involves many issues ranging from the protection of personal data to the digital economy itself," Setiadi said at the ministry's office here on Friday.

The discussion was also useful to demonstrate commitment and discuss the ASEAN Digital Minister's Meeting (ADMM), which is planned to take place in Singapore in January 2024.

According to the minister, ASEAN's digital economy potential is projected to reach Rp2 thousand trillion (around US$125.88 billion) by 2030.

Therefore, the current period is deemed a determining moment for the development of the ASEAN region. Thus, careful preparation from stakeholders is also considered necessary so that the development can be optimal.

The preparation can be made through the ADMM, among other things, which can accommodate initiatives and present solutions for ASEAN countries to move together in the economic sector through digitalization.

Meanwhile, Ambassador Seng said that it was a pleasure to discuss the digital economy with Indonesia, considering that both Singapore and Indonesia are part of the G20 and also ASEAN.

According to him, the discussion of Singapore and Indonesia in ASEAN adds inputs for other Southeast Asian countries so that they can have similar priority discussions regarding digital economic development that are at the same level as deliberations at global-level G20 meetings.

He further informed that for ADMM 2024, Singapore is preparing a collaboration scheme between the digital economy and the green economy to create a more lasting and sustainable industry.

Furthermore, Singapore is looking forward to further cooperation with Indonesia through ADMM 2024 so that the two can collaborate again to develop the economy of the ASEAN region together.
