Bandung, West Java (ANTARA) - Indonesian Defense Forces (TNI) Commander Admiral Yudo Margono said he believes that General Agus Subiyanto, who has been chosen by President Joko Widodo as a candidate to replace him, meets the requirements for a TNI commander.

"I believe he is capable of leading the TNI. Of course, (TNI) will synergize with the National Police and work together with other chiefs of staff to bring a better, more professional, modern, and resilient TNI," he added.

Speaking after closing the 51st batch of the Indonesian Military Staff and Command College here on Thursday, Margono said Subiyanto can be a good leader for the chiefs of staff of the Army, Navy, and Air Force, and establish good collaboration with the National Police.

Subiyanto has the qualities required to be a TNI commander, he reiterated.

Later, if Subiyanto passes the fit and proper test, Margono will hand over and communicate all duties and policies that would need to be continued by his successor.

"I think he is qualified, that he has fulfilled one of the requirements, which is being the Army Chief of Staff. I will hand over the policies that have been carried out," Margono said.

Furthermore, the new TNI commander will need to prepare TNI soldiers to secure the 2024 General Elections, he added.

"We had planned our activities in 2023 beforehand, while there is the General Election in 2024," he said.

To become a TNI commander, a soldier must be ready to face various dynamics that occur in the field, he underlined.

"There must be dynamics on the way, where he (Subiyanto) will carry out his duties amid the dynamics," he said.

On Tuesday (October 31, 2023), the House of Representatives received a letter from the President on the selection of Subiyanto as a candidate for the post of TNI commander in place of Admiral Margono, who is retiring on November 26.
