We all share the responsibility to preserve peace, and we must fulfill this responsibility right now
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Pancasila ideology has guided Indonesia to maintain national unity amid the diversity it is blessed with, President Joko Widodo remarked while delivering a public lecture at Georgetown University, Washington D.C., the United States.

"In managing its diversity, Indonesia is referring to the state ideology of Pancasila that sustains unity in diversity and inspires the nation in every aspect of life," Widodo stated in the presence of almost 500 students and academics on Monday (November 13).

As cited from a press release from the Presidential Secretariat in Jakarta on Tuesday, the president noted that differences and competition would not trigger open conflicts that could bring about regional instability as long as everyone is able to maintain harmonious communication.

Communication, collaboration, cooperation, and room for dialogue constitute key factors in creating a stable and peaceful climate, both at the regional and global levels, he emphasized.

The head of state affirmed that Indonesia is always open to forge cooperation with every country, adding that the Southeast Asian country will always side with those upholding the values of peace and humanity.

"That is the principle we carried during Indonesia's leadership in the G20 and ASEAN in the midst of a fragmented world, marked with increasingly fierce rivalries and heated geopolitical tension," he stated.

Widodo then noted that solidarity among global leaders is the key to overcoming the humanitarian crises induced by the armed conflicts between the Palestinian Hamas and Israel as well as Russia and Ukraine.

"We all share the responsibility to preserve peace, and we must fulfill this responsibility right now," he stated.

After delivering the public lecture at Georgetown University, President Widodo headed for Yarrow Mamout Mosque that is situated within the university's complex to perform afternoon prayer.
