"With all facilities on board, KM Sinabung can accommodate at least 1,900 people," general manager of PT Pelindo-Regional IV Biak Office, Silas Warfandu, informed here on Tuesday.
During the event, KM Sinabung, which is scheduled to arrive at Biak Port one day before the event commences on November 21, will function as a floating hotel, he said.
Indonesian naval ship KRI 991 Dr. Wahidin Sudirohusodo will also be anchored at Biak Port to support the Sail Teluk Cenderawasih, Warfandu said, adding that Pelindo will provide pioneer ships during the event.
The Sail Teluk Cenderawasih organizing committee and the Biak Numfor district government have ensured that all facilities needed for the event are fully complete, he said.
The seven-day event will feature six priority programs, including export of fishery products, a diplomatic trip, seminars, cultural performances, and an exhibition for micro, small, and medium enterprises, he added.
The districts of Sarmi, Waropen, and Yapen Islands will also support the event, which is themed "Solidifying Indonesia's Maritime Sovereignty in the Pacific," he continued.
According to the Papua provincial government's official website, Sail Teluk Cenderawasih 2023 is one of the calendar events of the national tourism industry.
Jointly organized by the central government and the Papua administration, the event aims to accelerate regional development in Papua.
The Sail Teluk Cenderawasih organizing committee introduced the event to the public at a launching ceremony at Sarinah Mall in Central Jakarta earlier in February.
