With this scheme, television operators can save spending on infrastructure investment so that they can focus on providing quality broadcast programs.
Jakarta (ANTARA) - Communication and Informatics Minister Budi Arie Setiadi on Friday said that TVRI's new transmitter in Alasmalang village, Banyuwangi district, East Java, could help optimize digital television broadcasts in the East Java 6 Service Area.

"Previously, there were no TVRI digital transmitters in the Banyuwangi area, and the nearest service areas were in Bali and in Gunung Gending, East Java. Now, the Alasmalang Transmission Station will serve digital TV broadcasts in East Java Service Area 6, which covers Banyuwangi and its surroundings," Setiadi expounded here.

During a visit to a digital transmission station in Banyuwangi, he said that the new transmitter at the station, which is owned by TVRI, a public broadcasting agency, could support the national digital transformation program.

With the new digital transmitter, TVRI is expected to cooperate with other television providers to maximize multiplexing service rentals, he added.

"With this scheme, television operators can save spending on infrastructure investment so that they can focus on providing quality broadcast programs," he said.

He further said that the digital transmitter could provide wider broadcast coverage, allowing people to enjoy broadcasts with optimal audio, visual, and content.

"People can enjoy an increasingly diverse selection of television channels with better image and audio quality," he added.

Currently, out of all broadcasters operating in Indonesia, TVRI has the most digital transmission stations at 158, which account for 37 percent of the total transmission stations nationwide.

TVRI reaches 70.18 percent of Indonesia's population.

Earlier, the Ministry of Communication and Informatics urged television broadcasters to add interactive features after switching to digital broadcasts fully to improve user experience.

The government has also prepared multiplexing channel frequencies and is implementing the Digital Broadcasting System (DBS) to provide digital TV services in the outermost regions.
