Jakarta (ANTARA) - The National Cyber and Crypto Agency (BSSN) stated that it conducted digital forensic investigation to analyze the alleged data leak experienced by the General Elections Commission (KPU).

"In handling the cyber incident that occurred in the KPU, BSSN is conducting analysis and digital forensic investigation on the application and server to find out the root cause," BSSN spokesperson Ariandi Putra remarked here on Friday.

Putra noted that the KPU, as owner of the electronic system, will announce the follow-up action to the initial handling step by the BSSN.

"KPU, as the owner of the electronic system, will convey the results of the investigation and follow-up development of the alleged data leakage," he remarked.

Earlier, on Tuesday (November 28), the KPU stated that it had continued to coordinate with the Election Cyber Task Force to ensure the security of voter data in the 2024 elections.

"We are requesting the Cyber Task Force for assistance. Now, BSSN is helping us," KPU's Head of Data and Information Technology Division, Betty Epsilon Idroos, explained.

She remarked that the KPU had received information related to an alleged leak of voter data by a hacker using the name "Jimbo".

In response to this, the Ministry of Communication and Informatics (Kominfo), who superintends the Personal Data Protection Law, had on Wednesday (November 29) sought the KPU's clarification regarding the alleged leak of Permanent Voter List (DPT) data.

Kominfo's Director General of Applications and Informatics, Semuel Abrijani Pangerapan, remarked that this clarification step is in accordance with Law No. 27 of 2022 concerning Personal Data Protection.

"We ask for their clarification based on the Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) and the law. We have sent an e-mail to the KPU, and they have three days to respond to this," he remarked.
