On Wednesday, he opened three bus terminals: Type A Tingkir Terminal in Salatiga, Central Java province; Paya Ilang Terminal in Aceh province; and Anak Air Terminal in West Sumatra province.
"Transportation facilities and infrastructure are important, especially during long holidays like this," he said during the inauguration ceremony at Salatiga.
He informed that the Tingkir Terminal cost Rp34.8 billion. It can provide inter-city inter-provincial (AKAP) as well as inter-city intra-provincial (AKDP) bus mobility and rural transportation through the operation of 235 buses per day.
Meanwhile, Paya Ilang Terminal in Aceh cost Rp22 billion and can serve 91 AKAP, AKDP, and urban buses per day, he said.
Anak Air Terminal was built with funds of Rp94.8 billion and can serve up to 109 buses per day.
The total budget for the three terminals amounted to Rp151.7 billion.
According to him, the three bus terminals have modern buildings and are equipped with comfortable facilities.
Besides accommodating passengers, they can function as centers of micro, small, and medium enterprise (MSME) activities, shopping, and other social activities, he informed.
"The development of transportation facilities and infrastructure is very important to improve inter-city and inter-regional connectivity and support community mobility, as well as increasing the comfort of land transportation users," he explained.
Earlier, Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture, Muhadjir Effendy, said that around 107 million people are expected to travel during the upcoming Christmas and New Year holidays.
He informed that the peak of the Christmas homecoming flow is expected from December 22 to 23, 2023, and the peak of the return flow is estimated from December 26 to 27.
Meanwhile, the peak of the New Year holiday flow is predicted from December 23–30, and the return is expected to peak from January 1–2, 2024.
