Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Witness and Victim Protection Agency (LPSK) launched a collaboration strategy to strengthen the psychosocial rehabilitation program for victims and witnesses of crimes.

Head of LPSK Hasto Atmojo Suroyo stated here on Wednesday that the collaboration program aims to restore social, economic, and spiritual conditions of victims, witnesses, and their families of crime.

"The witness and victim protection law states that the LPSK can cooperate with various institutions, at the central and regional levels, and we have reached out to them to provide psychosocial services to witnesses and victims that LPSK protects," Suroyo remarked.

LPSK launched the collaboration with Jakarta bus rapid transit PT Transportasi Jakarta (Transjakarta) and the Ministry of Cooperatives and Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs).

In 2022, the LPSK had provided Rp711 million worth of assistance to 324 victims and witnesses.

The psychosocial assistance was in the form of cash or training.

Suroyo remarked that the assistance was given to ensure that the victims and their families can continue their lives normally after the criminal incident.

He affirmed that the state has mandated the LPSK to conduct an assessment of compensation that will be given to victims of crimes.

The compensation is given by the state to the victims of gross human rights violations, terrorism, and sexual violence.

Earlier, LPSK, the National Commission on Human Rights (Komnas HAM), and the National Commission on Violence against Women signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on the national human rights institutions' quick response mechanism for the protection and fulfillment of the rights of human rights defenders.

Komnas HAM member Hari Kurniawan highlighted that the cooperation is a form of commitment of the three institutions to synergize in fulfilling the rights of human rights defenders.
