Jakarta (ANTARA) - Head of the Witness and Victim Protection Agency (LPSK) Hasto Atmojo Suroyo, during the Victim Witness Friend inauguration event here on Thursday, explained the purpose of forming the Community-based Witness and Victim Protection Program.

"This is an idea intended to allow civilians to be actively involved in witness or victim protection and recovery works," he remarked.

Tracing back the history of LPSK, the agency was born over the people's encouragement and support. Based on this, the agency felt that it is time to give back to the people.

The creation of the program is also inseparable from the limitation of human resources and budget experienced by LPSK.

The vast geographical conditions of the country and inadequate presence of representative offices impelled the institution to start the Community-based Witness and Victim Protection Program.

In addition, the number of protection requests received by the agency continued to rise. This shows that crime always exists, thereby necessitating hard work in order to address it.

Suroyo believes that the Community-based Witness and Victim Protection Program will work as intended. This can be realized through the spirit of mutual assistance that the people in Indonesia have since a long time ago.

"Bung Karno (Indonesia's First President Soekarno) always said that work for benefit of all, sweat for the happiness of all," he remarked.

He expects that the spirit of mutual assistance that the people still have and remains as Indonesia's core identity can make the program a success.

This is especially because of evaluation from the international charity agency Charities Aid Foundation that nominates Indonesia as the most generous country in the world consecutively.

The LPSK unveiled the Community-Based Witness and Victim Protection Program on Wednesday, June 8, 2022.
