Jakarta (ANTARA) - The operation of the 4G Base Transceiver Station (BTS) in Indonesia will increase the productivity of people in underdeveloped, frontier, and outermost (3T) regions, Communication and Informatics Minister Budi Arie Setiadi stated.

"The main target of digital infrastructure development is to help the society become more productive," he noted in a press release received here on Saturday.

He remarked that the presence of digital infrastructure in 3T areas can support public services in the education, health, defense, and security sectors as well as micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs).

"This digital infrastructure can help people, especially in 3T areas, to access the digital space," Setiadi stated.

During the inauguration ceremony of the operation of the Ministry of Communication and Informatics' BAKTI 4G BTS and SATRIA-1 integration with the ground station in Talaud Islands, North Sulawesi, on December 28, President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) stated that the construction of BTS in Papua faces quite big challenges.

Hence, he ordered Commander of the Indonesian Defense Forces (TNI), General Agus Subiyanto, and National Police (Polri) Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo to secure the construction development of 4G BTS in Papua to be completed in 2024.

"President Jokowi said that we had to resolve the construction development of BTS in Papua. I answered that in six months we can solve it along with coordination from TNI and Polri for the security measure," the minister remarked.

In addition, Setiadi remarked that his side would speed up completion of the construction of 4G BTS in other areas in order to realize equal distribution of internet connectivity throughout the country.

“We have to complete 630 BTS locations in Papua in one month, then followed by other areas, especially 3T areas," he remarked.

Setiadi is optimistic that the construction of 4G BTS in all 3T areas would be completed before the end of President Jokowi's term of office or in October 2024.
