Jakarta (ANTARA) - Chairman of the Indonesian National Olympic Committee (NOC Indonesia), Raja Sapta Oktohari, has stated that several achievements in various sports in 2023 became a stepping stone for Indonesian athletes to qualify for the 2024 Paris Olympics.

Quoted from an official statement received here on Monday, he remarked that the increase in Indonesia's achievements last year was more colorful, with some clocked in several sports that were less familiar before.

"Usually, Indonesian sports are dominated by badminton, weightlifting, and archery, (but) now, other sports have contributed achievements," he remarked.

The sports in which the athletes achieved more in 2023 were football, cricket, hockey, and the men's relay team, which brought home the gold medal from the 2023 Cambodia SEA Games.

"This is a legacy to the strength of our team," Oktohari stated.

He also commended the achievements of Team Indonesia at the 2022 Hangzhou Asian Games, where the Red and White Team ranked 13th by bringing home seven golds, 11 silvers, and 18 bronzes.

The number of gold medals at the Hangzhou Asian Games has become Indonesia’s highest gold tally since the 1982 Asian Games in India.

On the other hand, the achievements of archers Arif Dwi Pangestu and Diananda Choirunisa, artistic gymnast Rifda Irfanalutfi, and sport climbing athletes Desak Made Rita and Rahmad Adi Mulyono helped Team Indonesia secure five tickets to the Olympics.

"We will continue to monitor the qualification process. We will announce updates regarding the preparation of Team Indonesia for the Paris Olympics early this year, including the announcement of the 2024 Indonesian Team Chef de Mission," Oktohari remarked.
