Jakarta (ANTARA) - Presidential candidate Prabowo Subianto remarked that he will continue a "good neighbor" foreign policy if he is elected as the Indonesian President for the 2024–2029 period.

"One thousand friends are too few, and one enemy is too many. We will continue implementing the 'good neighbor' foreign policy," he stated during the third presidential debate for the 2024 General Election in Jakarta on Sunday evening.

He described the good neighbor foreign policy as a tradition that has been upheld by Indonesia since the dawn of its independence.

"Traditionally, since our independence, our foreign policy has been referred to as an independent and active one. We have maintained neutrality, avoiding alliances and pacts, and this will continue," he affirmed.

Prabowo expressed the belief that by sustaining the good neighbor foreign policy, Indonesia would manage to maintain good relations with all international powers.

"By preserving good relations with all powers, we will be able to secure our national interests," he pointed out.

After the presidential debate on December 12, 2023 and the vice presidential debate on December 22, 2023, the General Elections Commission (KPU) held the third debate.

Defense, security, and foreign policy topped the themes of the third debate.

Previously, the KPU determined the three pairs of the presidential and vice presidential candidates, namely the pair Anies Baswedan-Muhaimin Iskandar with serial number 1, Prabowo Subianto-Gibran Rakabuming Raka with number 2, and Ganjar Pranowo-Mahfud MD with number 3.

The KPU has also scheduled the campaign period from November 28, 2023 to February 10, 2024, with the voting day on February 14, 2024.
