Transparent public communication can pave the way for natural public dialogueJakarta (ANTARA) -
The government has been conducting clarification of facts as a vital measure for handling and averting the spread of disinformation amid members of the public, Deputy Minister of Communication and Informatics Nezar Patria stated.
Patria noted that the government has the responsibility to ensure the dissemination of accurate and comprehensive information in order to prevent an information gap.
"Based on data, 64 percent of governments in the world have established a dedicated structure to ward off disinformation," he noted in a statement received here on Wednesday.
Patria underlined that the Communication and Informatics Ministry had formed a special team tasked with dealing with the circulation of hoaxes on social media platforms and websites.
The measure was taken with the goal of ensuring the government's role as the regulator that works to curb the spread of false information by clarifying facts, he added.
According to a survey in 2021, he said, 60 percent of people in 21 countries deem their countries as ignorant to public opinion during the formulation of public policies.

Such a trend should be altered, as it could adversely affect the level of public trust in the government and democracy system, according to Patria.
Hence, to this end, he emphasized the importance of the government continuing to conduct public communication in an adaptive, transparent, inclusive, and accountable manner by clarifying facts.
"About 45 percent of governments place transparency as the main objective in their public communication. Transparent public communication can pave the way for natural public dialogue," he stated.
He noted that the government can make the most of the conveniences offered by digital technology to control the spread of disinformation and improve the effectiveness of its public communication.
"Online media and social media platforms play a crucial role in forming public arguments. Digital platforms also provide the government with opportunities to establish direct contact with the public and vice versa," he concluded.
