Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) appealed to the public to be aware of the potential for rain accompanied by lightning that was forecast in several major cities in Indonesia on Wednesday.

Based on information from the BMKG, weather conditions are forecast for Sumatra Island, cloudy weather is predicted in Banda Aceh City, though light rainfall in Medan and Tanjungpinang City. Meanwhile, the public is urged to be aware of the potential for rains accompanied by lightning in Pekanbaru City and Padang City.

Furthermore, light rain is forecast in Jambi City and moderate rainfall in Bengkulu City and Bandar Lampung City. Meanwhile, people are urged to be aware of the potential for heavy rain in Palembang City as well as rains with lightning in Pangkalpinang.

Shifting to Java Island, light rains are predicted in Jakarta and Surabaya, while moderate rainfall is forecast in Bandung, Semarang, and Yogyakarta. The public is urged to be aware of the potential for rains accompanied by lightning in Serang City.

Furthermore, for Bali Island and Nusa Tenggara, cloudy weather conditions are forecast in Denpasar City and light rainfall in Kupang City. Meanwhile, the public is urged to be aware of the potential for rain with lightning in Mataram City.

On Kalimantan Island, fog is expected in Tanjung Selor City and light rainfall in Samarinda and Palangkaraya. It was raining moderately in Pontianak City, while thunderstorms are likely to occur in Banjarmasin City.

The weather on Sulawesi Island is expected to be overcast and sunny in Gorontalo, with light rains in Manado, Palu, and Mamuju. Makassar and Kendari are also experiencing rains.

Meanwhile, the weather in eastern Indonesia is expected to be overcast to densely clouded in Jayapura and Ambon, with moderate rains in Ternate and Manokwari.
