President Joko Widodo on Saturday welcomed Vietnam-based VinFast's plan to invest in Indonesia and expressed optimism about the automotive company's involvement in strengthening the archipelago's electric vehicle (EV) ecosystem.
"We fully support the investment plan of VinFast in Indonesia. You can coordinate with my ministers regarding the issuance of related permits," Jokowi, as the president better known, told VinFast chairperson Pham Nhat Vuong, according to a statement released by the Presidential Secretariat here.
Jokowi met Vuong at the VinFast office in Haiphong city during his working visit to Vietnam.
After meeting Vuong, he visited VinFast's EV factory to observe the manufacturing process of eco-friendly vehicles. Thereafter, he tested the cockpit of an electric car produced by VinFast.
Following his review, Jokowi described VinFast as an automotive company that has been growing rapidly.
