Vice President Ma'ruf Amin, on Sunday, commenced environmental cleaning and tree planting activities titled "Tanara Clean Up" in Tanara Sub-district, Serang District, Banten Province.
In a statement received from his secretariat in Serang on Sunday, Amin noted that the Tanara Clean Up Program was initiated under collaboration between the Environment and Forestry Ministry, Syekh Nawawi University of Banten, Indonesian Navy, private actors, and society.
"The Tanara Clean Up Program aims to invite people to clean up rivers, learn about waste management, revitalize river ecosystems, and plant trees," he pointed out.
He further explained that the program is not only aimed at maintaining the sustainability of the environment but also at edifying people on how to economically manage waste in rural areas while protecting rivers from being contaminated by domestic waste.
"This initiative will help Tanara become a center for environmental and ecotourism education," he stated.
Amin then expressed hope that the program would encourage people to build awareness of their environment and guide them to make the most of river areas as a source of income while preserving the ecosystem.

Bakar said that the ministry is also developing an ecotourism spot along 200 meters of the river as an open green space for locals, adding that Tanara has been designated as the center of a nation-wide tree planting program.
"We are carrying out tree planting activities simultaneously in all provinces of Indonesia, with Tanara being the center. The government is aiming to plant tree seedlings on critical lands as an effort to recover the quality of the natural environment in Indonesia," she pointed out.
