Jakarta (ANTARA) - Maritime Affairs and Investment Coordinating Minister Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan has urged all stakeholders in the carbon capture and storage (CCS) industry to tap Indonesia's enormous carbon storage potential.

"We stand together for sustainable investment to reduce carbon emissions. We would like to invite all CCS players to make the most of Indonesia's enormous carbon storage potential by developing the downstream industry to produce low-carbon products," he said in Jakarta on Tuesday.

In his opening speech at the launch of the International and Indonesia CCS (IICS) Forum 2024, Pandjaitan urged all relevant stakeholders to work together to devise strategies that can pave the way for Indonesia to become a CCS hub.

"Collaborative actions are crucial to reach our common goals for the sake of a more sustainable future," he said.

The minister then extended full support for the Indonesia CCS Center while urging the organization to forge collaboration and partnership with all stakeholders, including state institutions, state-owned enterprises, private companies, and international institutions.

He expressed the belief that such a partnership is crucial for conducting research, advocating required regulations, and creating a conducive climate for the development of CCS in the country.

The Indonesia CCS Center will hold the IICCS Forum 2024 in Jakarta from July 31 to August 1. Pandjaitan said that this year's edition of the forum would serve as a stage for Indonesia to show the world that it wields huge potential in carbon storage.

He also underscored that the holding of the forum would prove that the government is committed to preserving the environment and promoting acts of sustainability.

"Let us all build a future where Indonesia serves as a lighthouse of innovation while playing a role as the leader in the carbon capture and storage field," he added.
