Denpasar, Bali (ANTARA) - The Bali Immigration Office has begun operating automatic immigration checks, or autogates, totaling 30 units, in the initial stage at I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport.

"We had installed 30 functioning autogates. For the next stage, we will add another 50 gates for arrivals and departures," Head of the Bali Province Regional Office for Law and Human Rights, Romi Yudianto, stated in Denpasar on Friday.

According to Yudianto, the autogates will help expedite the immigration inspection process with greater accuracy, effectiveness, and efficiency, without compromising on the aspects of supervision and security.

In addition, the autogate allows immigration checks without interaction with immigration officers, Yudianto stated.

He said this effort was made to support the revival of Bali's tourism sector by providing easy facilities to tourists.

Meanwhile, Head of the Immigration Office at Ngurah Rai Airport, Suhendra, stated that his side has planned this digitalization strategy since 2023.

The plan is to place 60 autogates at the arrival area and 20 units at the departure area, he noted.

For immigration monitoring and security, Suhendra affirmed that his side would utilize face-based identification system technology that complements the convenience of the autogate system.

The autogate will also be equipped with an autogate operating scheme to take photos of passengers directly for verification with the data contained in the passport and visa or residence permit data, Suhendra elaborated.

In addition, a passenger profile information system and an immigration alert surveillance system are used to support immigration surveillance, he noted.

Based on data from I Gusti Ngurah Rai Airport, Bali, passenger movements in 2023 had reached 21.5 million people, an increase of 71 percent as compared to 12.5 million people in 2022.

In terms of the 2023 achievements, 9.9 million people had traveled on domestic routes and 11.6 million people traveled on international routes.
