Jayapura, Papua (ANTARA) - Central Papua acting governor Ribka Haluk has asked the organizers of the 2024 elections to map vulnerable areas that are prone to conflict as this will be the first time an election will be held in the province.

"Central Papua province is one of the new provinces in Indonesia, so this is the first election to be held here," she said in a press release received here on Saturday.

According to Haluk, the first election is a big milestone that will determine the future of Central Papua province for the next five years, so making the election implementation successful is a shared responsibility.

"At the opening of the National Coordination Meeting of the Regional Leaders Communication Forum (Forkopimda) on Wednesday (January 17, 2024), President Joko Widodo, in his speech, said that political stability and security must be maintained in 2024 so that the situation remains conducive," she recalled.

Therefore, Haluk said, the government and security forces must map potential vulnerabilities ahead of the 2024 simultaneous general elections.

"The election organizers, in this case, the General Elections Commission (KPU), the General Election Supervisory Agency (Bawaslu), and security personnel, must detect problems in the field," she added.

According to her, recent sociopolitical dynamics have had a significant impact on people's lives, nation, and state.

"Some of the incidents that emerged are conflicts, ideologies that are contrary to Pancasila, separatist actions, and acts of terrorism that can lead to the instability of the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia," she said.

All stakeholders, especially election organizers and local governments, should make efforts to prevent incidents that could disrupt security, including by preventing the circulation of alcoholic beverages during the election, she said.
