They are interested in developing bioenergy and we also have many sources.
Jakarta (ANTARA) - Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM), Arifin Tasrif, has revealed that Italian oil and gas company ENI has evinced interest in developing bioenergy in Indonesia.

He added that Indonesia also has great bioenergy potential.

"ENI came here. They are also interested in developing bioenergy and we also have many sources," he said at the ESDM Ministry's building in Jakarta on Friday after witnessing the signing of a cooperation agreement between his ministry and ENI.

The memorandum of understanding (MoU) was signed by secretary general of the ESDM Ministry, Dadan Kusdiana, and Chief Operating Officer (COO) Natural Resources, ENI, Guido Brusco.

Tasrif said that the signing of the MoU is a follow-up to a visit by ESDM Ministry representatives to the ENI Office in Italy from January 21–24, 2024.

The collaboration, he continued, is part of the accelerated efforts being made to achieve the net-zero emission (NZE) target in Indonesia by 2060 or earlier.

"With this MoU, it is hoped that ENI can help the decarbonization program in Indonesia and strengthen the cooperative relationship between ENI and Indonesia," the minister said.

The MoU outlines the intentions of the ESDM Ministry and ENI regarding the development of bio-feedstock to produce biofuels and nature-based and technology-based carbon offsets.

It also covers other initiatives related to energy transition and decarbonization, including but not limited to carbon capture storage/carbon capture utilization and storage programs (CCS/CCUS) and energy efficiency.

It is known that ENI holds participating interest (PI) in 13 production-sharing contracts in Indonesia. ENI's actual gas production in 2023 was pegged at 705.6 million standard cubic feet per day (MMSCFD). (INE)
