Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesian Foreign Affairs Minister Retno Marsudi reminded the European Union (EU) member states to be consistent in respecting international law, including in the issue of Palestine and in responding to the crisis in Gaza.

While speaking at the 3rd EU Indo-Pacific Ministerial Forum in Brussels, Belgium, on Friday (February 2), Marsudi called on the EU to use its conscience to stop Israeli atrocities in Palestine.

"As a supporter of international laws, the European Union must be consistent in the issue of Palestine because consistency between values and actions shows our true morality," the minister noted in her press statement.

Marsudi remarked that the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) and the EU should be at the forefront of maintaining consistency in respecting international law, including in responding to the Palestine issue, considering that Palestinians have continued to face injustice for more than seven decades.

The minister highlighted that everyone, including Palestinians, have the same rights to be respected and protected as well as to have their own state.

Marsudi emphasized that Indonesia will continue to support the Palestinian people's struggle to get their rights, no matter what the challenge is.

Indonesia has also conveyed an appeal to countries that suspend their funding to the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) to reconsider their position.

She highlighted that the decision must not be a collective punishment to the people of Palestine.

She further conveyed Indonesia's support for an independent, credible, and transparent investigation to look into Israel's accusations regarding the involvement of UNRWA staff in the October 7 attack.

Due to the accusations, at least 18 donor countries, including the US, the UK, and the EU, suspended their financial support to the UNRWA.

"I invited everyone to use their moral compass in the efforts to strengthen partnership for the realization of peace and stability as well as prosperity," she remarked.
