Director General of Highways at the Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing Hedy Rahadian stated here on Friday (February 2) that the government is currently formulating priorities to decide on regional roads that will be repaired by using state budget support.
According to Rahadian, the definitive determination of the regional roads will be established through a joint decree of the Minister of Public Works and Public Housing and the Minister of National Development Planning or the Head of the National Development Planning Agency (Bappenas).
"We are currently preparing the joint decree with Bappenas," he affirmed.
He noted that the Presidential Instruction is carried out in one fiscal year, so the regional roads' repair is targeted to be completed by December 2024.

In 2023, the government allocated Rp14.7 trillion (around US$934.44 million) to repair roads in regions across Indonesia, except Jakarta and Central Kalimantan.
Rahadian, in a press release of the Public Works and Public Housing Ministry on November 7, 2023, stated that a total of 3,140 roads, comprising provincial and district roads, were handled by the central government in 2023.
In addition, the government handled bridges with a total length of 2,700 meters.
Presidential Instruction Number 3 of 2023 on the Acceleration of Regional Roads Connectivity Improvement, valid starting from March 16, 2023, is aimed at handling damaged non-national roads and improving connectivity and quality of regional roads with the help of the state budget.
Implementation of the Presidential Instruction is the government's effort to improve regional roads and connectivity that had been integrated with the national road networks.
Based on the instruction, regional roads that are prioritized to be repaired are the ones connecting the production and industrial areas with markets, roads connecting tourism areas, and those that are heavily damaged. (INE)
