Jakarta (ANTARA) - President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) and Agrarian Affairs and Spatial Planning (ATR) Minister/Head of the National Land Agency (BPN), Hadi Tjahjanto, distributed three thousand land certificates to communities in Bandung, West Java, on Saturday.

"Ladies and gentlemen, the certificate recipients that I respect and love, have you all received the certificates? Can you raise them high?" the President said during the certificate handover ceremony, which was followed online via the YouTube channel of the ATR-BPN Ministry here on Saturday.

The land certificate distribution was the result of the complete systematic land registration program (PTSL).

During the handover ceremony at the Si Jalak Harupat Sports Complex (GOR), President Widodo asked all recipients to hold up their land ownership certificates.

The head of state said that in 2015, 126 million land certificates were supposed to be issued by the ATR Ministry through the Regional Land Agency offices.

However, only 46 million land certificates were given to people. Further, only 500 thousand land certificates can be issued per year by the BPN.

"What does it mean? (There is a backlog of) 80 million land certificates, and BPN can only issue 500 thousand of them each year, meaning you have to wait 160 years to hold a certificate," the President highlighted.

He also asked certificate holders who want to use the certificates as collateral to get bank loans to be careful.

People must carefully calculate the loan amount and ensure that they can pay the installments to the bank, he said.

He reminded people not to buy consumptive goods on loan, such as cars, which can cost hundreds of millions of rupiahs.
