Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) has forecast high-intensity rainfall in some regions during the voting day and the vote recapitulation period on February 13-15.

BMKG's Deputy of Meteorology Guswanto stated here on Wednesday that based on the results of weather analysis conducted by his team, high rain of 150-300 mm will potentially fall during that period.

He explained that the projection for high-intensity rains is based on the analysis of the atmospheric dynamics, which showed the strengthening of the Asian Monsoon and the active Rossby and Kelvin equatorial waves.

The two weather dynamics are factors that form rain clouds and change the wind-turning patterns and wind directions throughout the Indonesian regions.

Such weather conditions also increase the risks of hydrometeorological disasters, Guswanto stated.

Referring to the BMKG report, 25 areas have the potential to experience high-intensity rains on February 13-15, 2024.

The 25 regions include Bangka Belitung Islands, Riau Islands, Riau, Jambi, West Sumatra, South Sumatra, Bengkulu, Lampung, West Java, Central Java, East Java, West Kalimantan, Central Kalimantan, and South Kalimantan.

High-intensity rains are also likely to occur in North Sulawesi, Gorontalo, Central Sulawesi, West Sulawesi, South Sulawesi, Southeast Sulawesi, West Nusa Tenggara, East Nusa Tenggara, North Maluku, West Papua, and Papua.

"This information is the result of a scientific observation and should not be politicized or interpreted wrongly. However, it must be responded to with enthusiasm to increase preparedness to smoothen the election process," Guswanto stated.

He ensured that all factual information from BMKG related to the weather and climate had been conveyed to the election organizing agencies, the police, military, and National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB).

The public can also access the 2024 General Election Weather Information Channel on BMKG's app BMKGInfo.
