Jakarta (ANTARA) - Pertamina Patra Niaga, an energy company that is still dominant in providing fossil energy, remains committed to encouraging the reduction of carbon emissions.

“We are committed to contributing to reducing emissions through various means. For society and the industry, we have provided more environmentally friendly fuel," Pertamina Patra Niaga President Director Riva Siahaan stated in Jakarta, Wednesday.

"We are also present as a decarbonization partner for business partners, and then, there are also independent efforts from our operational lines," he affirmed.

Siahaan said the commitment was proven by Pertamina Patra Niaga's success in reducing carbon emissions equivalent to more than 1.58 million tons of CO2eq from various emission reduction efforts in the company's operational lines.

The greatest success in reducing emissions came from the use of biofuel, especially the distribution of Biosolar B35 that contributed to reducing emissions by 1.57 million tons of CO2eq.

Some 5,800 tons of CO2eq comes from the use of PLTS at work sites and office buildings, PLTS at Green Energy Station (GES) gas stations, and reduced emissions from exchanging electric motorbike batteries or Battery Swapping Stations.

It is also the result of efficiency programs, such as energy efficiency, water efficiency, and other emission reduction programs.

“You can see the benefits of biofuel in reducing emissions. Therefore, in future, we will actively continue and develop more environmentally friendly fuel. Apart from that, other efficiency efforts will also continue to be improved," Siahaan stated.

With the result of significant reductions in emission, the use of biofuel is a major step in reducing emissions that will be continued and expanded in 2024.

This year, it is hoped that apart from Biosolar B35, Pertamax Green 95 would also reduce emissions quite significantly.

Apart from biofuel, Pertamina Patra Niaga also continues to encourage the distribution of low-sulphur fuel, such as the use of Pertamax Turbo and Perta Dex, which have sulphur content of below 50 ppm, equivalent to EURO4.

Moreover, for industrial partners, Pertamina Patra Niaga distributes Very Low Sulphur Fuel Oil (VLSFO) having a maximum sulphur content of 0.5 percent that meets the standards for international shipping.

“This is our way of becoming a solution and partner for decarbonization and reducing carbon emissions in the energy sector. We hope that this step will be our role in achieving the goal of Indonesia Net Zero Emission 2060," Siahaan stated.
