Jakarta (ANTARA) - PT Angkasa Pura II (AP II) projected that the number of air passengers will increase by 7–10 percent during this long weekend marking Isra Miraj and the Lunar New Year from February 8 to 11.

The state-run airport operator said that the number of passengers was expected to reach 943,747 on domestic and international flights across 20 airports.

"That is an average of around 236,000 passengers per day," said Deni Krisnowibowo, AP II's SVP of corporate secretary, in a statement on Thursday.

He said that his company is working to ensure the readiness of facilities and services for passengers at 20 airports during the long weekend.

Together with related stakeholders, such as AirNav, airlines, and ground handling staff, AP II will ensure the smooth operation of air travel amid an increase in flight traffic, Krisnowibowo assured.

He said that flight time slots at all AP II airports are also guaranteed to be available to accommodate the increased demand during the long holiday.

"The trend of aviation growth continues to increase this year. AP II is ensuring the availability of flight slot times at 20 airports to accommodate existing demand, including on this long weekend," he added.

He said that aircraft movements during the long holiday are projected to reach 7,071 flights, or an average of 1,768 flights per day.

"All airports managed by AP II will ensure the readiness of operations, services, safety, and security. This includes ensuring the reliability of infrastructure such as runways, the airport electrical system, and other infrastructure," Krisnowibowo continued.

AP II and related stakeholders are also ensuring the availability of public transportation modes at all airports to ease people's access to them.

Soekarno-Hatta Airport, Indonesia's busiest hub, expects 605,899 passengers and 4,191 flights during the weekend.
