Jakarta (ANTARA) - State-owned airport operator PT Angkasa Pura II (AP II) reported that the number of passengers at the 20 airports managed by it reached 1.86 million during the 2024 Eid al-Fitr homecoming.

The figure was recorded during the April 3–9 period and reflected an increase of 8 percent compared to the 2023 Eid homecoming, when passenger traffic reached 1.72 million.

"The highest flight traffic during the Eid homecoming occurred on April 6, reaching 313,164 passengers with 2,186 aircraft movements. Airport operations, flight operations, and services to passengers were running relatively well," vice president of corporate communication at AP II, Cin Asmoro, informed in a statement released on Thursday.

He said that Eid transport monitoring posts at all AP II airports supported the implementation of the Eid homecoming. All stakeholders also collaborated well at the posts to ensure that the safety, security, and service aspects were maintained in accordance with the applicable regulations.

"We also thank the airplane passengers who have supported AP II airport during the 2024 Eid homecoming," Asmoro remarked.

According to him, one of the indicators of the successful implementation of the Eid homecoming at the 20 AP II airports was the high level of on-time performance (OTP), which reached an average of 95 percent cumulatively.

"Followed by the utilization of flight routes at AP II airport is also quite high, reaching 98 percent. This means that almost all of the available flight routes are operated to serve air passengers," he explained.

In addition, the success of Eid homecoming at AP II airports could also be gauged from the operation of 1,412 extra flights.

The five busiest AP II airports during the homecoming were Soekarno-Hatta Airport with 1.13 million passengers, Kualanamu Airport with 167,680 passengers, Sultan Syarif Kasim II Airport with 79,715 passengers, Halim Perdanakusuma Airport with 78,070 passengers, and Sultan Mahmud Badaruddin Airport II with 73,163 passengers.

At Soekarno-Hatta Airport, AP II recorded a 9-percent increase in passenger movement during Eid homecoming, with the number of passengers pegged at 1.13 million.

Meanwhile, the number of aircraft movements at the airport during the homecoming reached 7,976, up 9 percent.

The top five destinations from Soekarno-Hatta Airport during the homecoming period from April 3–9 were Denpasar (166,213 passengers), Medan (147,237 passengers), Surabaya (110,348 passengers), Makassar (108,471 passengers), and Padang (88,689 passengers).
