"The death cases decreased significantly this time, as compared to the previous election where the death cases had been above 100 people," he remarked at the Dharmais Cancer Hospital here on Friday.
Sadikin remarked that the decline in death cases among KPPS officers was due to the increased health awareness.
"I think that the people have understood that working must not be too hard," he pointed out.
The minister expressed hope that no deaths among KPPS officers would be reported in the future elections.
One of the efforts made to ensure the health capability of KPPS officers during this year's election was health screening.
"Most of them had comorbidities like high blood pressure and diabetes. We must check their health before officializing them as KPPS members," he stressed.
Earlier, General Elections Commission (KPU) member Idham Holik stated that the number of KPPS officers who died in the 2024 election was not as high as that during the 2019 election.
"The number is not that many (like the 2019 election)," he stated.
The KPU recommended the vote counting to be conducted by two panels. The first panel would count the votes for the Presidential and Vice Presidential and the Regional Representative Council (DPD) candidates, while the other panel would count the votes for the House of Representatives (DPR) and the Regional Legislative Council (DPRD) candidate members.
The commission expects the two-panel system to reduce the burden on KPPS officers.
"We have two panels counting at polling stations. We conducted simulations in Tangerang City, Bogor City, Palembang, and Kutai Kartanegara, and there was time efficiency," Holik stated.
