"We cannot achieve the maximum results without support from stakeholders. All relevant stakeholders need to commit to exerting the utmost efforts to promote the interests of women and children," she stressed, according to a statement received from her ministry in Jakarta on Thursday.
She made the statement during a limited coordination meeting in Jember district, East Java, on Tuesday (February 20, 2024) after visiting five children who fell victim to sexual violence in the district.
According to Puspayoga, the central and regional governments need to work together to step up preventive measures to alleviate cases of violence involving women and children as victims.
"We need to start resolving this issue from the root. It is vital to take preventive measures as an effort to translate our women's protection commitment into reality," she pointed out.
The minister then stressed that all parties take notes and pay close attention to sexual violence cases involving children.
Regarding the sexual violence victims she visited on Tuesday, she said that her ministry has been coordinating with women and child protection offices in East Java and Jember to tend to them.
"The victims have undergone physical and psychological examinations. We will continue to ensure the fulfillment of their rights and oversee their protection, both in legal and medical terms. Parents, families, and the state share the responsibility in this matter," she added.
She then expressed the hope that the legal proceedings will run smoothly so that the perpetrators get the punishment they deserve, in accordance with the applicable law and regulations.
