Indonesia will lead the coordination of the establishment of a center of excellence with countries in Asia-Pacific and other regions.
Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesia expects the 10th World Water Forum (WWF), scheduled in Bali in May 2024, to result in impactful policies for participating nations, a member of the forum's national organizing committee, Dwikorita Karnawati, said.

Karnawati, who is concurrently heading the Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG), informed that during the 10th WWF, participants will discuss themes centered on climate, water, food, energy, and health, while relating them to politics.

"Results of scientific discussions will be elaborated, detailed, and integrated with politics so that scientific insights surfacing in the forum can be implemented in society. That way, countries will be able to translate the forum's outputs into policies more easily," she said here on Tuesday.

The official noted that the 10th WWF will highlight three processes in its discussions, namely thematic, regional, and political.

As the host of the forum, Indonesia is planning to encourage ministers responsible for water resources, climate, food, energy, and health to come up with a declaration, she added.

She further informed that Indonesia will push participating countries to establish the Center of Excellence on Water and Climate Resilience.

"Indonesia will lead the coordination of the establishment of a center of excellence with countries in Asia-Pacific and other regions. This is one of the goals we are pursuing," she underlined.

The 2024 World Water Forum, themed "Water for Shared Prosperity," is scheduled to be held in Bali province from May 18–25. At least 30 thousand–50 thousand participants from tens of countries are expected to take part in the event.

The WWF is the largest international meeting that brings together stakeholders in the field of energy resources, including political leaders, governments, multilateral institutions, politicians, academicians, civil society representatives, and business actors.

The inaugural edition of the triennial forum took place in Morocco in 1997.
