Jakarta (ANTARA) - Chairman of the Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI) Anwar Iskandar appealed to Muslims to make the most of the sacred month of Ramadan for worship and observe it wholeheartedly and diligently by carrying out various good activities.

"Allah has promised maghfirah and mercy. Various pleasures will be given to Muslims who carry out obligatory and sunnah worship in the month of Ramadan," Iskandar noted in a statement here on Saturday.

The MUI chairman made this statement while participating in the Ramadan Tarhib activity held by the MUI Da'wah Commission as well as a joint prayer for the safety of the nation.

He said Muslims must be grateful to the Creator Allah for being given health and the opportunity to carry out worship.

He also called the month of Ramadan a month of forgiveness and a means for people to cleanse themselves of sins and mistakes.

Iskandar said that every human being often commits mistakes.

However, regardless of how big a mistake a person makes, if he carries out Ramadan worship, such as fasting sincerely and wholeheartedly because of Allah, then the God Almighty will forgive him.

"After having observed Eid, he no longer had any mistakes. This is God's grace and love for all of us. Hopefully, we will all be able to carry out our worship solemnly and sincerely," he stated.

Through this Ramadan Tarhib activity, the MUI appealed to all Muslims to observe Ramadan with good activities.

"Hopefully, in the coming Ramadan, we will be given the opportunity to carry out the obligatory and sunnah worship during Ramadan," he stated.
