Padang, W Sumatra (ANTARA) - Malaysian tourists dominated the number of international travelers arriving in West Sumatra in January this year, according to the head of Statistics Indonesia (BPS) - West Sumatra, Sugeng Arianto.

As per BPS' records, 4,689 international travelers entered West Sumatra through Minangkabau International Airport in January 2024, out of whom, 3,903 were Malaysians, he informed in Padang city on Friday.

The remaining 786 foreign tourists came from such countries as Australia, France, the Netherlands, Japan, and Singapore, he added.

Compared to the number of international tourist arrivals in the province in January 2023, which was recorded at 6,710, BPS recorded a 30.12 percent decline this year, he said.

Regarding the length of stay, BPS noted that international travelers stayed at the province's three star-rated hotels for 1.50 days, on average, he added.

ANTARA has reported that the West Sumatra provincial government has set a target of attracting 13.5 million international travelers, and prepared 78 tourism events for its annual event calendar this year.
