Jakarta (ANTARA) - The current rice price had begun sliding to Rp14 thousand (US$0.89) per kilogram after the price of harvested dry grain (GKP) declined at the farmer level, National Food Agency (Bapanas) Head, Arief Prasetyo Adi, stated.

"Today, with the price of grain at Rp7,040 per kilogram, the rice price will be corrected for Rp2 thousand or Rp14 thousand per kilogram," Adi remarked at the Coordination Meeting for the National Holidays (HBKN) of Ramadan and Eid al-Fitr 1445 Hijriah in Jakarta on Monday.

Currently, the price of GKP is starting to fall, from earlier above Rp8 thousand per kilogram to Rp7,040 per kilogram. If the GKP price continues to decline, the price of rice will also be corrected significantly, he remarked.

He noted that the price of GKP and rice in the market fell after entering the main harvest season in the March-April period that is projected to reach 3.5 million tons.

"Prices will begin to be corrected as the harvest progresses, which will be approximately 3-3.5 million tons from our needs of 2.5-2.6 million tons. The harvest comes from Lamongan, Tuban Bojonegoro, Sragen, Ngawi, Demak, Grobogan, Lampung, and South Sumatra," he explained.
