Tangerang, Banten (ANTARA) - The Class I Immigration Office at the Special Immigration Checkpoint (TPI) of Soekarno-Hatta (Soetta) Airport in Tangerang was able to postpone the departure of 613 non-procedural Indonesian migrant workers (PMIs).

Of the hundreds of non-procedural PMIs, their departure through the Soekarno-Hatta International Airport was prevented from January to March 2024.

"The total number of non-procedural PMIs whose departure we have succeeded in postponing over the last two months is more than 600 people," Head of Soekarno-Hatta Immigration Information and Communication Technology, Bambang Tri Cahyono, remarked on Monday.

Based on data from immigration, some 613 non-procedural PMIs had planned to depart to various countries, including to Cambodia, as was observed in the latest case.

"There are two PMIs who would leave for Cambodia without procedures on Sunday (March 3)," Cahyono added.

However, his side had to postpone the departure since they were suspected of being PMIs.

He said that the two Indonesian citizens, all of whom were men, with the initials as MAH, 27, and A, 25, would depart aboard Air Asia flight number QZ474 for Phnom Phen at 12:00 local time.

Meanwhile, Acting Head of the Documents and Travel Division of the Soekarno-Hatta Immigration, Ryo Achdar, explained that the immigration officer then carried out an in-depth examination of the two men.

"From the results of the interview, it is known that both of them will work in Cambodia," he noted.

The examination also revealed that these two did not have complete supporting documents related to their work and had not reported their departure to the Indonesian Migrant Workers Protection Agency (BP2MI).

After coordinating with BP2MI, the immigration delayed the departure and handed over the prospective PMIs and their passports to BP2MI.

"They wanted to work in Cambodia but in a non-procedural manner," Achdar pointed out.
