Jakarta (ANTARA) - Speaker of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR), Puan Maharani, has called for strengthening bilateral cooperation with President of the French National Assembly, Yaël Braun-Pivet.

In a written statement on Tuesday, Maharani stated that Indonesia-France relations had grown positively for more than 73 years. The meeting between the DPR RI and the French National Assembly can encourage closer cooperation between both nations.

She will meet with Yaël Braun-Pivet at the French National Assembly Office on the sidelines of the 2024 Women Speakers' Summit held by the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) in Paris, France.

"Fellow female leaders must strengthen cooperation to continue fighting for gender equality and women's empowerment, both at the global level and in their respective countries," Maharani emphasized.

She then commended the French National Assembly for holding the Women Speakers' Summit, which discussed important issues facing women during various crises in the world.

The summit will feature two discussion forums addressing various women's issues. The first forum focuses on "Education in Equality, Health, and the Fight against Violence Against Women," while the second forum examines issues related to gender equality, parity, and women's empowerment in politics.

Maharani is also scheduled to deliver a statement at both forums.

Apart from the official agenda, the 2024 Women Speakers' Summit will have several side events held by the French National Assembly, starting from breakfast, lunch, and dinner to a tour of the French National Assembly Building and the inauguration of a photo-painting exhibition dedicated to women's political rights.

Maharani will also visit the Indonesian Embassy in France on March 8.
