"I would like to appreciate the French National Assembly for its initiative to host the 2024 Women Speakers' Summit. It is an honor for me to have an opportunity to attend this important forum," Maharani noted in a written statement on Tuesday.
The 2024 Women Speakers' Summit, scheduled for March 6-7, constitutes a forum that brings together female speakers within the IPU to reiterate parliaments' support for the fulfillment of women's rights.
The forum will feature Oleksandra Matviichuk, head of the Ukrainian 2022 Nobel Peace Prize-winning organization Centre for Civil Liberties, and Nancy Pelosi, former speaker of the US House of Representatives.
President of the French National Assembly, Yaël Braun-Pivet, will officiate the 2024 Women Speakers' Summit in Palais Bourbon, the building of the assembly.
Maharani stated that by attending the forum, women speakers from different countries will have the opportunity to exchange ideas and experiences according to their countries' national and international agendas.
"Through this forum, female parliamentary speakers will be able to strengthen commitments, exchange experiences, and gather strength to endorse women's empowerment," she pointed out.
The 2024 Women Speakers' Summit will convene various women-related issues in two discussion forums, with one of them highlighting the themes of education, equality, and health, as well as the fight against violence toward women.
Meanwhile, the second forum will touch upon issues related to gender equality, parity, and women's empowerment in politics.
