President Joko Widodo (Jokowi), on Friday, visited the Sibuhuan Regional Public Hospital in Padang Lawas District, North Sumatra, to ensure optimal services, including those covered by state health insurer BPJS Kesehatan.
"I wanted to ensure that this hospital offers proper services. I have learned that the registration of BPJS services was running swiftly," he told journalists after the inspection, according to a statement issued by his secretariat in Jakarta.
Jokowi noted that the Sibuhuan Hospital is currently empowered by 17 specialist doctors, significantly exceeding the minimum of seven specialist doctors stationed at a regional public hospital.
However, the president emphasized the need for the hospital to increase the number of specialist doctors capable of treating heart and stroke diseases, adding that he will instruct Health Minister Budi Gunadi Sadikin to deal with the matter.
The head of state then outlined several issues that should be addressed at the hospital, such as the need to add more medical equipment and expand the capacity of its buildings and rooms.
"We will take care of these issues. We will build. We will intervene," he pointed out.
Meanwhile, several patients of BPJS Kesejatan at the hospital expressed their satisfaction with the efficient services offered by the insurer owing to the utilization of a digitized system.
One of the patients, Indah Simanjuntak, admitted to being grateful for the swift and quality services offered by the public hospital while noting that BPJS Kesehatan has been enabling her to afford the services.
"I would have to incur more to enjoy similar services offered by private hospitals. Here, I can get quality medicines from competent doctors," she stated.
The Presidential Secretariat noted that Jokowi's visit to the public hospital demonstrates the government's genuine care for quality, equitable, and accessible health services in all regions of Indonesia.
Public Works and Public Housing Minister Basuki Hadimuljono, Health Minister Budi Gunadi Sadikin, Acting Governor of North Sumatra Hassanudin, and Acting Head of Padang Lawas District Edy Junaedi accompanied the president to the hospital.
