"As the election organizer, we will defend the election results that we have made official on Wednesday (March 20) at 10:19 p.m. Jakarta time," KPU Commissioner Idham Holik stated here, Thursday (March 21).
Holik remarked that the vote-counting process had been conducted in an open and participatory fashion, staged from the local to the national level.
Defending the election results before the top court showed that the agency fulfills the accountability aspect, which is one of the principles of electoral organizers, the commissioner stated.
"We firmly believe that the entire election process also satisfied the accountability aspect," Holik emphasized.
The election body on Wednesday declared Prabowo Subianto-Gibran Rakabuming Raka as the winner of the 2024 Presidential Election, thereby making them the president- and vice president-elect.
KPU head, Hasyim Asy'ari, who officiated the election results, reported that the Prabowo-Gibran pair won 96,214,691 votes (58.59 percent). Meanwhile, their rivals Anies Baswedan-Muhaimin Iskandar and Ganjar Pranowo-Mahfud MD secured 40,971,906 votes (24.95 percent) and 27,040,878 votes (16.46 percent) respectively.
Prabowo-Gibran won in 36 provinces, Anies-Muhaimin won in two other provinces, and Ganjar-Mahfud did not win in any province.
He noted that 164,227,475 valid votes were cast in the election.
According to the Election Law, presidential candidates could challenge the election results by filing a dispute to the Constitutional Court up to three days after the results become official.
The president- and vice president-elect will be inaugurated on October 20. Meanwhile, elected legislators will be inducted into office earlier on October 1.
