Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Youth and Sports Ministry held the "Empowered Young Family Training" (PKMB) for the third time with the aim of raising the youth development index (IPP).

As per a statement released by the ministry here on Wednesday, the program initiated by the deputy for youth development took place in Bogor city, West Java.

"This training targets the smallest entity (of the community), which are young families to prepare for a larger scope," an official at the ministry, Mulyani Sri Suhartuti, said.

She informed that the program was designed to boost the national youth development index and strengthen prospective young families.

The program also targeted areas with high rates of early marriage and divorce.

Bogor city was selected because based on data from West Java Statistics Indonesia (BPS), the number of divorces in the city reached thousands in 2019.

"The training is expected to be able to form quality families, so (young people) can play a role in national development in their respective fields and the national IPP will increase," Suhartuti added.

She said that young people will face various problems and challenges in the future, hence it is necessary to improve their knowledge and skills, especially in the era of globalization and digitalization with its rapid flow of information.

"Today's youth lives in the era of severe and diverse challenges. Keep the spirit high and fight continuously because the youth (serve) as agents of change, social controllers, and must be involved in nation building," she added.

The PKMB series was attended by 100 young people from various youth organizations across Bogor city.

Head of the Bogor Youth and Sports Office, Taufik, expressed his gratitude to the government for the synergy between the central government and the region in increasing the participation of the city's youth.
