Jakarta (ANTARA) - Minister of Youth and Sports Dito Ariotedjo conveyed the government's commitment to revitalizing sports facilities in Cipayung, East Jakarta, in a bid to support the development of Indonesia's badminton performance.

"Along with the Public Works and Public Housing Ministry, we are committed to revitalizing and modernizing sports facilities in Cipayung," he told the media after an iftar gathering with the National Olympic Committee of Indonesia here Thursday (March 28).

Ariotedjo then spoke of having instructed the Badminton Federation of Indonesia (PBSI) to center training activities in Cipayung, adding that the government will provide renewed sports technology and infrastructure to support the federation.

The minister underscored that the revitalization plan had been approved by President Joko Widodo and would be further followed up.

"Insya Allah (God Willing), Mr. President has approved the plan to designate Cipayung as a proper training center," he pointed out.

He then emphasized that the Youth and Sports Ministry views the sports facilities in Cipayung as constituting valuable assets and will seek to further enhance them in the hopes of supporting the development of sports, especially badminton.

Ariotedjo also remarked that his side had continued to push for enhancing the quality and capacity of all sports centers in regions.

According to the minister, some regions already have sports centers that can accommodate three to six thousand people and provide supporting facilities for various sports, such as badminton, volleyball, and basketball.

He expressed belief that the existence of more sports facilities in regions would stimulate the economy, which, in turn, would lead to progress in the industry of sports.

"That way, we will be able to reach a scale of economy that can further stimulate the sports industry," he said.
